April Event of the Charlotte Business Guild
Tuesday, April 20, An Evening with authors Sheila Morris, Kelley Doherty and Frances Richter, Crowne Plaza Hotel, 201 S. McDowell St., Charlotte, NC 28204

Join the Charlotte Business Guild for an enlightening “Evening with LGBT authors.” Sheila Morris, a member of our sister organization, the South Carolina Gay & Lesbian Business Guild in Columbia, will join CBG members Kelley Doherty and Frances Richter on a panel to discuss not only their current books but how they got published and the business aspects of being an author.

Sheila Morris (www.writersheilamorris.com) is a native Texan who has lived in Columbia for almost 40 years. She was one of four co-founders of the South Carolina Guild in 1993 and has stood for social justice on the side of the demonized all of her adult life. The Human Rights Campaign recognized her leadership and service to the lesbian and gay community with its Equality Award in 1997. Shelia is the author of two memoirs, GCLS Literary Award winner, “Deep in the Heart - A Memoir of Love and Longing,” and her recently published, “Not Quite the Same.” She considers herself an essayist with humorist tendencies and believes that she acquired her storytelling abilities from her grandmother on her daddy's side.

Kelley Doherty, former three-term CBG President and currently a senior Vice President with Wells Fargo Bank, is the author of two novels of the mystery/thriller genre. "Person of Interest" and "Extraction" feature lesbian protagonists and Charlotte-centric plots. Through her program "Books that Give Back," Kelley has used proceeds from sales to donate more than $1000 to charities including the 2009 Charlotte AIDS Walk, Charlotte's Susan G. Komen Foundation, and a national autism research center. In her personal, non-creative time, Kelley enjoys spending time with her wife, Marcy, and their 13-year-old son.

Frances Richter (www.moonfestpublishing.com) has lived all of her life in the deep South and is an active member of the Charlotte Business Guild. Her introductory novel, "Friend of the Firm: a Sheldon Bailey Mystery," was published in 2008 and develops the character of a lesbian homicide defense attorney in Charlotte. It is a delightfully thrilling romp into Sheldon's adventures with clients, personal relationships and the criminal justice system. The second novel in the series, "Love Valley," is scheduled for publication in 2010. Frances writes for fun and finds it a truly satisfying hobby with the added benefit of aiding her to create works that she can share.
